Spoilers ahead. If you choose to read ahead that's on you.

I absolutely devoured this book like Xaden devoured Violet on that throne. 🥵 Xaden letting down his walls and finally becoming vulnerable with Violet was everything. I really felt for Violet this entire book. She is dealing with the trauma of watching Liam die, finds out everything she has been told her entire life has been a lie, and on top of that Xaden kept a bombshell of a secret from her. First off I understand Xaden keeping that secret, it wasn't his to tell. All of this is important because it explains Violets back and forth behavior, and why she seems different this book.

One thing I have really loved about The Empyrean series is that the dragons power is channeled through the rider. I never mentioned that in my review of FW, but I thought it was such an interesting concept. I really enjoyed Andarna and Tairns banter throughout the book. It was very obvious that Andarna is not like the rest of the dragons in the vale. I believe she is the "and the one combined" that was talked about in the journal. I'm interested to see how Andarna affects Violets power since we know Tairn alone already provides a wealth of power.

RY really went for the jugular making Violet have a vision of Liam when she was being held by Varrish. 😭 The whole time I was foolishly holding out hope maybe he somehow made it. I am selfishly hoping this isn't the last we see of him, maybe he will be a spirit guide to Violet? Was anyone else as devastated during that scene?

Overall I loved this book. I obviously didn't enjoy the ending, but keep in mind this is only book 2 of a 5 book series. I'm very excited to see where the series goes.

Plot: 4/5
Characters: 4/5
Spice: 2/5 but the throne scene 5/5🔥
