I started WG because it promised a sci-fi-ish dark academia mystery, and the beginning of the book was promising. But, well it's, firstly, not that, and secodly, so boring.

It's almost like the book doesn't understand its own appeal. I want to know more about the Tox,
thawt ancient parisite,
and the research done on it, and less about whatever Welch and Headmistress are up to!! I want to know more about the crab, and the island with its beautiful wild imagery, and less about how their food is poisoned. I want more academic and apocalyptic dynamics between the girls, and less of whatever we got.

The characters, oh god. They're so boring and I couldn't care less about them. They're done mostly through telling and not showing, and are barely distinguishable. Even the sapphic motifs didn't make them better.

This book has a good promise, somewhat interesting setting and thereotically i guess someone could write this story much better. Do not recommend. I am so glad i didn't buy this book hardcover.
