where do i even begin i loved this book so much holy shit i can't even vocalize it or even begin to put it into words.
slowburn, grumpy/sunshine, i hate everyone in the world but you, fake marriage? marriage of convenience!
vanessa starts off as aiden's assistant. after leaving because of the way she's been treated aiden shows up at her house begging for her back. i'll keep it straightforward: this is like wattpad plot. BUT IT'S SO GOOD??? how?? i can't even start to explain it.
there were so many moments i was just screaming crying throwing up because aiden? vanessa? their development together? THE WAY THEIR RELATIONSHIP PROGRESSED? i am so sad i'll never read this book for the first time again. zapata books always have a very emotional level to it as well, both mcs come from complicated family, there is mention of past abuse (in a family system) so check trigger warnings.
i loved the side characters. i think both diana and zac have spin off books and if there's even a CHANCE a SLIGHT CHANCE i get more of my favourite couple i am going to take it.
i saw a review talking about how they wished aiden had an actual love confession at the end, where it is revealed that he has been in love with her the whole time but i disagree.
aiden's love language is not words of affirmation. when he has something to say, it's always important. it's why when he lets vanessa blabber on about something random and just sits there listening with the smallest smile on his face. she is the ONLY one he would let do that and it's so flip-flopping cute.
aiden's actions speak so much louder than his words. he likes vanessa well enough sure, going so far as to say "i like you as much as i like anyone." but over the course of the wall of winnipeg and me, very, very, slowly his actions show how his feelings start to change. MY GOD THIS QUOTE??
“you tell me. i never stop thinking about you. i worry about you all the time. every beautiful thing i see reminds me of you. i can’t finish my practices in colorado without wishing you were around,” he said in a steady tone. “you tell me what i feel.”
when you think about it, aiden hasn't really experienced immense love in his life. in his words, he was like "i'm a loner. i don't know how to make relationships." vanessa is the first person he really tries with and it shows in their connection. do i think aiden and van are soulmates? no. are they the exact right person for each other? yes, yes they are. without a doubt.
okay because i am emotional i'm going to name some of my favourite moments.
-everytime aiden does a small gesture indicating he's embarrassed or the tips of his ears turned pink/red, it was so endearing.
-leo. that's it. i was searching up 'big football players holding tiny dogs' because i needed to visualize the morning.
-halloween and christmas scenes
-elevator scene, him reassuring van that "he's got her."
-COLOURS OF VANESSA'S HAIR THAT'S ALL MY STANDARDS ARE RAISED SO HIGH
-him flying out to her romance book convention. and looking for her in the crowds. just ANYTIME he's looking for her in the crowds i'm over here DYING IN MY CHAIR
-how he acts with her in front of his friends <333 especially the last interaction 'i'm putting her to bed' WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
-"touch my wife again and i'll break every bone in your goddamn body."
