A fantastic autistic-coded lead detective with a stand out voice at the helm of a fascinating noir-type series. Winters takes on the question of how one might solve a murder at the end of the world with intelligence, nuance, and humor while crafting a compelling mystery within that setting. I did call the killer from the moment they were introduced but I feel like the narrative did a decent job of making me question that assumption, though not quite enough to ever completely throw me off (which led to a half star deduction overall). That being said, the atmosphere, character relationships and tight writing more than make up for that complaint imo. I will be seeking out the sequels, if only to see if Winters actually follows through with ending the world in book 3 (after book 1 I think he will but we'll see if this changes!)
