I really don’t know how to feel about this book. There were lots of very effective horror scenes to be sure
(the son’s dirt eating in particular was super disturbing to me ),
and I found it quite readable, but there were also a lot of things that I just didn’t understand the point of.
The graphic, almost disgusting sex scenes and the mention of molesting the young teen daughter were strange and I thought that surely, at some point, there’d be a reason for them, but there really wasn’t and I feel like if they were completely removed I’d have enjoyed the book a lot more because they jarred me right out of the story.
I also found the writing to be a little clunky at some points, and the ending fell a bit flat for me.
