This book didn't grab me at all. The characters were poorly fleshed out and didn't feel real at all, the world building was choppy, and the attempted epic political conflict was murky and simplistic at best. The books ends very much on a cliffhanger and I have no desire to push myself through the second book to see what happens. The story was presented as if there was some depth to it, but I found only surface level characters/conflicts/etc. in actuality.
