The Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas

3.0

I wanted to love this book. So many friends commented on Facebook that they loved this book when I shared that I'd checked it out from the local library based on a reader's advisory experience. It's set in Kansas - where I'm currently living. It is about a circle of quilters - which has been an important part of my life. And many of my friends love it. So what's not to love?

Unfortunately, I found the plot to feel very forced. I'm always more interested in character than plot driven stories, and these characters did not come to life for me at all. Instead, they existed to serve the major plot points that Dallas wanted to hit - some of which seemed intended to "shock" the reader but weren't really that shocking at all. I had a hard time pushing through. The final chapter was heartwarming and a bit redeeming. But I still am not rating it highly compared to other things I've loved reading.
