A Secret History of Witches by Louisa Morgan

3.0

3.75/5

The writing of this book was just stunning and each of the characters were incredible in their own way and fairly well rounded in my opinion to show the differing of how each generation impacted the next. I would say the final two ‘books’ were my ‘favourites’ simply because they were the longest lasting and so I felt more connected to the characters and they were just, to me, the most likeable generations within this novel.

The only reason my rating is as low as it is is due to the fact that, for the most part, I felt I wasn’t able to connect very well with the main characters before their storyline was over and we moved to the next generation. I suppose I understand why it’s written that way it’s just that personally as a reader I prefer to get super connected to characters and really get to know them which I felt I was unable to do with the majority of these women.

Nonetheless I did really like this book and found the writing style beautiful with wonderful yet flawed characters, showing the power of women in times where society was unaccepting of that whilst also showing the pull and desire surrounding the craft and magic and how using it can affect a person in so many ways.
