To Ride Pegasus by Anne McCaffrey

3.0

Rather than 1 single story, this book is a compilation of 3 short stories. The first is recognition of "talent" as something real and scientific rather than false. The second is finding a place for the Talents to live in a world that's resource scarce, based on the theory of overpopulation back in the late 60s / early 70s.

The characters are well written, but are barely 3 dimensional, and not all of them are. In places you can feel their pain, frustration or joy. For example, not having an identifiable talent, while married to a strong precog, was frustrating to one character. Then she gives birth to a very strong telepath, but still can't figure her own talent out. Finally, they figure out she's a kinetic who works so precisely that she's manipulating genes.

Great story over all, and the other 2 are just as good.
