The Devil You Know by Angus King, Jamie Robertson, Sandy Mitchell, Christian Dunn, Toby Longworth, Harriet Kershaw, Jonathan Keeble

4.0

After enjoying the last audio book that I listened to I decided to listen to another while I continued to paint my Warhammer 40k models.
I was particularly excited to listen to this one due to the presence of the Dark Eldar (my army of choice). I was not disappointed as Caiphus Cain came up against
Spoiler a troop of wychs led by a succubus. I really enjoyed Caiphus' fight with Maelithia Mortalis (third succubus of the tainted kiss).

It was also great to see the appearance of the tyranids, another army that I like. I loved seeing the
Spoiler way in which their hive mind works, and the soldiers use it against them by killing off the larger individuals to disrupt the hive mind connection leaving the smaller tyranids to revert to their primal nature.

I loved the way there were little interruptions by Amberley Vale to help add context to the story, just as happens within the written books. It was also good to see the narrative switch to get a more complete picture of what was happening to the others when Cain was no longer in their company.
I enjoy the way that these stories are read, the dramatic music and the many sound effects that are added to them which help to make them more realistic. The narrators also put effort into the voices, giving them feeling, rather than the rather flat narrations that I've heard in other audio books.
Overall I thought that this story was well written and the narration was great and I look forward to reentering the world of Warhammer 40k in the future.
