Definitely would not recommend reading to children!!! I kept reminding myself that this is a children’s book and couldn’t get over the feeling that I would not want kids to read it. While this book does include a disclaimer the page before the story starts, it is a very dangerous thing to meddle with medication. Kids, more likely than not, would not read the excerpt before getting into the story. If reading to children, I would highly recommend talking to them before and after about not taking medicine that isn’t theirs and the effects that drinking things that are not meant to be drunk.
The grandma was an atrocious person, but the way everyone in the house talked about her was not acceptable. Of course an 8 year old boy should not have to look after his grandma by himself and should not be called all those nasty names, but he should not have tried to “treat” his grandma by messing with her medication.
