Who Was Stan Lee? by Geoff Edgers, Who HQ

4.0

Read this one with the Kiddo as part of his summer reading choices for school.

This is a straightforward and accessible telling of the life of Stan Lee, and also a good synopsis of the history of Marvel Comics. In between the important events of Stan Lee's life and career are sidebars that go into the important events in world history and in the history of comics at the time, as well as features on Marvel characters and comics, and brief bios of a couple of other important creators who were instrumental in the early years of Marvel.

This was a good book for making the connections between Marvel's stories, and the history that was going on while the stories were being written and drawn.

Some of the more controversial aspects of Lee's life, such as the ongoing intellectual property dispute with Jack Kirby, were smoothed over as one might expect in a biography for young readers, but they were not entirely ignored.

The Kiddo (age 10 and a Marvel fan) enjoyed learning a bit more of the origins of his favorite characters.
