The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

a hurried review, but this book was just so brilliant and amazing and terrifying and painful to read. it took the trends of misogyny and gender equality we see in today's society and amplifies them, really making you think. as a young woman, it really made me wonder what it would be like to be seen as just a tool, something to be used for a purpose greater than myself, rather than a human being, who is interesting and important. and even though it is a dystopia set in a future that might be quite distant, i felt terrified reading this story, because i see things that i aren't completely different from what we see in the world today, and the horrible stories we hear. probably one of my favourite pieces of literature now, even though it was a little tough to go through.
