| My Review | An unfortunate DNF for a captivating well-written book. It has the formula for a great story: engaging writing, captivating flow, complex characters, and a fascinating world I never thought I would be interested to read about! It just so happens this book also follows the trope where the characters are in love a third of the way through, and you start to wonder why there are still so many pages left to read.

I went into this blind, anticipating a complex love story, and was met with a tragic sapphic biography. I love sapphic romance, but I hate tragic love. The scenes where Celia grew angry at Evelyn’s attempts to hide their relationship tore me apart. I swiftly went to read the summary of the book online, and found many more scenes of grief and tragedy. It’s just not fit for me. Maybe in the future, when my tastes have changed to acquire more sadness in my love stories, I will come back to this book. For now, I will put it away, and move on to sweeter endings.
