Ghost of Lies by Alice Winters

5.0

Great characters, an interesting plot, and ghosts both spooky and goofy; topped off with classic Alice Winters' humour.

Hiro can see the dead, and he helps them find peace and cross over. His ability drops him in a lot of awkward-to-explain situations, like crime scenes; often finding the body before the police do. This leads to a lot of run ins with Detective Maddox, who's trying to figure out how Hiro knows so much.

Through some unusual circumstances involving the mayor's dead wife's explicit painting, Hiro ends up as a consultant on one of Maddox's cases. Hiro and Maddox's relationship is a highlight, their banter was so fun to read.

The mystery was interesting and I didn't guess whodunit. It was actually spooky and had some horror elements that I really enjoyed!
