I've followed Sandhya Menon's work for a while, so I was curious to see what her debut adult novel would be like. Unfortunately, it really didn't work for me. Certainly, I was really into parts, but overall I found the plot relied much too heavily on misunderstandings and coincidences for my taste. It took a long time for me to warm up to the characters, and by the time I did, my heart just wasn't into it.

Tech in books - especially with app development, is always something that I always find very hit or miss. For me, this was a miss. I'm still not 100% sure what role Annika took in the development of Make Up because her friend was doing all the programming. I know obviously that she was the CEO and had the initial idea, but I would have actually preferred her to be playing a much more active role in something she was so passionate about. Plus, honestly, the idea of the app is actually kind of terrifying; I can only imagine the horrifying possibilities for misuse.
