Slonim Woods 9: A Memoir by Daniel Barban Levin

challenging dark emotional hopeful reflective sad tense medium-paced

5.0

In 2010, Larry Ray moved into his daughter’s on-campus apartment at Sarah Lawrence College. In the year that follower, he coerced her roommates into believing that he had “the truth” and could help them all find “clarity.”

The following school year, several residents of the apartment, Slonim Woods 9, took Larry up on his offer to house them in his 1 bedroom apartment on the upper east side. Most of them would not emerge from under Ray’s control until nearly 10 years later.

Daniel Levin was trapped in this hell-hole for two years. SLONIM WOODS 9 is his story. It is one of the most personal, poetic, and brave memoirs I’ve read. Daniel wrote a meticulously detailed account of his thought patterns under Larry’s control that left no mystery and, in fact, created deep empathy, for how these college freshmen fell into this manipulator’s grasp.

As of January 2023, Larry Ray is sentenced to 60 years in prison.
