An Early Resurrection: Life in Christ before You Die, by Adam S. Miller

5.0

I'm a fan of Miller's work, even though I often find myself resistant to something in his Buddhist-inflected, Pauline vision of Mormonism (I'm not quite sure what, but I think it's the insistence on submission, which may be my pride or a different fundamental framework). Regardless, I find value in reading Adam's thoughts and wrestling with them.

This is no different.

In addition to the usual Eastern-inflections of Adam's work, I couldn't help but think of Christian Wiman as I was reading this. There's also some compelling and strange crossover with atheistic arguments about meaning in life to the way that Adam talks about the need to die before death so that we can live.

Compelling work once again from Adam. Recommend for those seeking a thoughtful blend of practical and intellectual insights to the life of a disciple. Adam's work is rooted in the way that he lives as a disciple, but may still be more academic than some are drawn to. As a person who spends much of his time in thought, I appreciate Adam's approach, but recognize that it may feel too "deep" or something to others. Anyway. For those that like their discipleship to be somewhat intellectual, but also practical, this is for you.
