Fenrik's Fate by Jenifer Wood
funny
lighthearted
fast-paced
- Strong character development? Yes
- Loveable characters? Yes
5.0
Fenrik’s Fate is a stand-alone novella that is technically a prequel to Steve’s Barmaid, but you don’t have to have read the other books to enjoy this!! I think all of the books in her series are great but being that this is a novella and a stand-alone, it would be a great way to get into the monster romance genre if you’ve never read one!

Another amazing orc romance from Jenifer Wood! I really enjoy this world and the way she writes it. Even with it being a novella, the characters feel so solid and genuine. I specifically love the way Wood handles consent and mental health with her characters. The consent talks always feel very natural and not clunky/obligatory like some books. In this book the FMC, Tracy, has been traumatized by religious dogma along with an abusive ex. You read about the effect of that past in her present experiences but you also get to see her growth and survival from it.
