I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

challenging dark informative reflective sad fast-paced

"Loving someone is vulnerable. It's sensitive. It's tender. And I get lost in them. If I love someone, I start to disappear. It's so much easier to just do googly eyes and fond memories and inside jokes for a few months, run the second things start to get real, then repeat the cycle with someone new."

Yo, this had been an amazing listen! I heard praises for this book so when I found out that it was on sale on Audible, I just had to get it. Plus points too since it's Jennette who's narrating the whole book! It gave us additional emotion on what she was definitely feeling during those time, whether during child, pre-teen, teen, young adult and adult. It gave me a glimpse of what it would be like to have a mother who'd push her ideals and goals towards their kids. When friends or relatives ask what this book was about, I'd tell them it shows how controlling her mom is and how I can understand why she's glad her mom died. Imagine having to be bathe by your mom at a "young" age of 16? I can't. But that's what happened. That's not even the deepest and darkest. It's the tip of the iceberg. I wish I could have been there for Jennette and just hug the child her. She needed it. But if I had to wish for something for her, it would have been that I wish it was different and she'd not experience those stuff.

Aside from her mother too, she tackled different mental illness but specifically bulimia and how she overcame it. Her mother made her believe that it's the right thing to do and I got so mad at what has happened to her. A mother is someone who'd guide them to the right path, not the wrong and thorny ones. It's also sad that her "father" was not there for her through all this.

Plus points for showing how good of a friend Miranda was too! I watched iCarly during my High School and College years back when we had net (but I didn't catch the Sam and Cat spin off though since we already moved houses) so it's such a mind opener to see someone act so happy but was actually in the dark.

I'm glad Jennette is fine now and hopefully enjoying the non-showbiz life!
