Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony by Eoin Colfer

5.0

How am I supposed to be normal about the last forty-odd pages of this book? That sequence between Holly and Artemis - you know the one - is burned into my brain. Genuinely, years after I first read it, I would recall it at odd moments and get a little shiver. Upon re-reading it, I'm still shook.

The other way in which I remember this book is: Ah yes, the one about puberty. A large part of how Artemis's pubescent, hormonal state is portrayed is the introduction of Minerva, essentially a female Artemis whose genius is less criminal and more humanitarian scientist. I can appreciate how her arc, which is essentially a speed-run of Artemis's in the past few books, helps her act as a foil to him - but I'm honestly glad Colfer didn't decide to keep writing her as a love interest.

Also, Butler's trust in Artemis makes me yell. Goodness, I love them so much.
