I love this book so much (and the movie isn’t bad either.). I think it’s amazing when a book is sad and painful but still manages to give you hope. I read this book a while back in class and we learned about the real life case that inspired this book and the book manages to stand on its own without you even having to know that there was an actual case that inspired it. I think one of my favorite things in the book is how when the mom starts getting upset the reader starts to feel that too.

For example, her family makes a big deal about her sons long hair and the fact that he’s still breastfeeding, the mom of course doesn’t think it’s a big deal because she and her son were locked away for seven years. Long hair and breastfeeding doesn’t even clock on her radar. Anyways, this is an amazing book and you should definitely check it out if you haven’t already.
