I have been dragging my feet to write this because a good friend recommended this book and LOVED it. Unfortunately, I did not....and I keep rehashing this book and my issues with it and I am not sure I can put it into words that will appease anyone (but does anyone actually read my reviews? Unlikely).
I am a person who has struggled with my weight since I was little. I remember my mom's friend trying to talk to me in Sunday school when I was in 3rd grade (who does that!!??), non stop commentary from parents....bullying from school. Yes, I get it....skinny is easy, fat is hard....people need to love and accept themselves...etc. I have read the magazine articles and memes, don't get me wrong. My issue was how easy this all was....and not only easy, but how she "struggled" but not really--- as in, "my feelings are hurt", but then let me just sleep with him....the man I loved for ever appears....and I can run off with him, but nope, can't forgive him or explain why...even though I have non stop explained everything else in this book. It just wasn't feasible. Good on the author for putting a larger lady as the main character....but I didn't appreciate how THAT was the point of the whole book. That should not be the reason Bea is important/interesting. Let her be a human. Let her size not be important....just a detail, like her job.
This is the story of a social media star getting thrown on to a Bachelor like show to meet her future husband and all the reactions from her friends/social media/the men....and how she got through it and attempted to find her happily ever after.
Read if you like well written chick lit--- and don't mind that size is a character in the story.
