Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
Did not finish book. Stopped at 44%.
I really wanted to like this book and keep with it— I feel like it’s the epitome of dark academic fantasy. But I just couldn’t really get behind any of the characters, the mystery aspects just kept getting stretched out and I the pacing felt too slow.
I think it’s interesting compared to how much I like Bardugo’s YA novels where I loved the characters/character development, action and quicker pace more inline with the plot.
I also couldn’t mentally get beyond the field trip scene, and although I’m not sure if it eventually made sense in the plot, it just felt the specific choices made weren’t needed. I think there can be horrifying scenes in plots without the need for certain actions being taken if it’s just for shock factor.
