The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly

4.0

Matthew McConaughey made a great Mickey Haller in the 2010 Hollywood movie of the novel.

I loved the movie and picked up the book yesterday at a used books store. Unlike the movie, Haller does not have his office but operates from his precious car, the Lincoln. He gets a rich client whom he believes is innocent of his crime. But as he investigates, he find that his client has set a deadly trap for Haller. Raul Levin, the investigator Mickey had hired, has been killed. Mickey believes that his client, Roulet, has killed him. The murder weapon is apparently a Woodsman gun that Mickey inherited from his father. Also the client is not above threatening Haller with regards to the safety of his daughter.

It will take all of his wit and skill to get out of the moral, ethical and legal trap that has been laid for Haller by his client. Haller hopes that he not only survives this case of a lifetime, but is also saved from being disbarred.

An honorary mention goes out to the inexperienced DA, Minton. Josh Lucas portrayed that role to the perfection. Being a Lucas fan, I'd have preferred if he played Haller, but I just hope we get to see more of Minton in the latter books and possible movie sequels.
