Back for More by Kayley Loring
4.0
This is my 9th Loring-penned HEA in 2 weeks - one more to go and I'll have finished her entire catalogue to-date. This story of Wes and Lily love at first sight as teenagers/runaway to find myself/pining virgin hero(&ine)/office romance/once in a lifetime love is in my top 5 with Sleeper, Charmer, Sexy Nerd and Come Back to Bed.
The side characters are great - love the friendship and banter between Lily and her BFF Alecia, who together, are Lilecia, who dreamt that they would marry best friends and live HEA. And while that dream took Lily running away to try and be an actress only to come back broke to work for her unrequited forever love at her family business, they do end up making that dream come true.
Also, I had a sneaking suspicion that Wes was a virgin from the way Alecia described his cool disinterest in other woman, but I was still kind of surprised by how low-key that revelation was when they finally slept together the first time:
“Fuuuck. Baby. You’re so tight,” he hisses. And then, as he realizes just how tight I am, he opens his eyes and looks at me. His Adam’s apple bobs up and down. “Baby,” he says. I nod once. He lowers himself to kiss my cheek. “You waited for me too,” he whispers.
That's it. That's the first and last of how they were both each other's first. And when I think about it, I preferred it this way. They knew each was the other's love and despite how they always seem to be at odds superficially, deep down, they know each other...and I suppose they perhaps subconsciously knew that that was how it was meant to be.
