This epic historical adventure story is based on the influence of Europeans on the land of the Rising Sun in 17th century.

From the beginning, it is clear that this is turbulent times, natural disasters, disease and war. John Blackthorne is an Englishman on a Dutch ship sailing to the famed Eastern area dominated by the Portuguese. A great setup for the political intrigue that peppers this book. Treachery and betrayal are its major themes.  From clashes in culture, religion and the power struggles.

Perfect for fantasy readers or historical readers who enjoy political intrigues. It is a tome which will be familiar to this type of reader.

And boy, is that title a bit misleading. But I did say this book is full of treachery.
