The romance is definitely a subplot in this one I feel like it focuses more on the action. I will say that it’s very political fantasy/dystopian based. With the fantasy/dystopian genre it’s almost always the same plot which is the “chosen one” being thrown into being the face of a rebellion or just joining one against the rulers of their books.
It’s always interesting to see how each author makes it their own. I will say I kind of lost interest 60% in which sucks cuz I was almost there and that’s the pattern I found with this book I was bored then hooked throughout the whole thing I’m glad it picked up towards the end with the betrayal and all that. I feel like Maven and Mare have more chemistry than she ever did with Cal ?? And I know Mav betrayed her but I love a villain arc. I know that she’s probably going to end up with Cal
