Rereading this book for the first time since 2011 was fascinating. I was able to notice so many things I didn’t quite pick up on originally and have just gained a stronger appreciation for Collins’ narrative, pacing, and descriptions.
Graphic: Child death
Moderate: Alcoholism, Animal death, Death, Violence, Murder, Fire/Fire injury, Injury/Injury detail, and Classism
Minor: Body horror, Gore, Suicide attempt, and Death of parent
So this is a young adult book. All of these warnings are things that feature in the book, but it’s not terribly graphic. There are parts that can be upsetting to readers, but nothing that a twelve or eleven year old couldn’t handle.
