Tidewater Inn by Colleen Coble
3.0
Having read Colleen Coble’s upcoming # 3 in the Hope Beach series (Seagrass Pier), as received an ARC, so was excited to go back and start with #1 Tidewater Inn, and #2 Rosemary Cottage.
A light mystery, set in the Outer Banks are of NC, in a place called Hope Beach. The story begins with Libby, the main character, a restorer of historic real estate projects.
But when Nicole, her partner arrives to work out the details of the sale, she is stunned to discover the attorney on the island is looking for Libby—her father has died and left her a historic inn.
Inheriting a beautiful old hotel on the Outer Banks could be a dream come true for Libby. The inn cries out for her restorer's talent and love of history. She's delighted to learn of the family she never knew she had. Libby also learns she has two step siblings she knows nothing about—they are not so welcoming.
In the midst of all the drama, she witnesses her business partner and best friend being kidnapped while watching on a web cam. In the middle of the investigation she meets handsome Coast Guard lieutenant, Alec—could this be the man of her dreams?
With all the dreams of the inn, and a possible love relationship—she soon discovers she will have to sell it to developers, in order to afford the upkeep. Her brother and sister of course—not so accepting of her and they want their birthright—they do not want to share.
She is devastated about Nichole and begins to search endlessly to find her with the help of the authorities. They think she is to blame since she inadvertently erased the video, in attempt to save it to a disk—appearing suspicious.
Alec loves the small town where he lives and doesn’t want the inn to be sold as the buyer plans to build a resort and bring in a lot of tourists. Alec also has just taken custody of his rebellious nephew, whose parents were recently killed in a plane crash.
As he helps Libby search for Nichole, Alec and Libby form a bond and a relationship. She fights desperately to clear her name and find her friend, and figure out how Alec, the good looking Christian guy fits in to her life.
Being a native of NC, and in the hotel and design business, always love this sort of setting, especially when dealing with architecture, coastal real estate, and history.
A story of greed and envy and love, family, truth, Christian faith, redemption, and forgiveness. Looking forward to reading #2 Rosemary Cottage!
