The Harbor by Katrine Engberg

4.0

I love Nordic thrillers and this one does not disappoint. Although we're introduced to many places and people from the start, each are described with such clarity and uniqueness that it was easy to keep track of the who and the what. There was an easy balance between the telling of the mystery along with the personal lives of Korener and Werner that gave it an authentic feel to the detective's challenges to balance both.

As with any good mystery, it seems like everyone, including the victims, have secrets that nobody wants to give up. And as these secrets were uncovered, more and more characters became suspect. One area that was more of a distraction in the story was the constant underlying sexual tension between Werner and a possible suspect. It seemed out of character for Werner.

The story keeps a steady pace as the reader is brought deeper and deeper into the investigation. People are complicated but sometimes the reason we kill can be simple.

I look forward to reading the second book in the series.
