I had the mistaken impression that this book was overhyped and I put off reading it for a long time. What a mistake that was! This book weaves well-known fairy tales, myths, and legends to tell a whole new story. The plot is compelling and the characters are each distinct and interesting. I read most of this book all in the same day because I just couldn't put it down.
....And when I had finished it, I immediately had to go out and buy the rest of the series!
This book is an escapist fantasy of the best kind. The rest of the world fades out while you're reading, and you'll likely find yourself thinking about the plot, the characters, and what might happen next each time you have to put it down.
