Imogen, Obviously by Becky Albertalli

2.75

I have such mixed feelings about this book. It was definitely a super fast read, and the main relationship was cute, but the discourse, good god the DISCOURSE. I know there’s the whole RL context about the author and stuff, but it truly felt exhausting to read, both from Imogen’s POV and from the shit Gretchen kept stirring. Especially the multiple references to queerbaiting that had me yelling “real people can’t queer bait” because Jesus fucking Christ if I wanted to see that shit I’d just scroll for 5 minutes on Twitter.

I only read this because I needed a prompt for “main character shares an identity with you” for the queer summer bingo challenge I’m doing on here and I do wish I’d found something else but at least I’m now only 1 1/2 books away from blackout!
