Petersburg Tales by Nikolai Gogol
4.0
the surreal aspects surprised me! wonderful and strange. particularly enjoyed Nevsky Prospect and The Overcoat. I think the cold and bare descriptions of St. Petersburg as a setting was interesting for how it frames the bizarre characters. Gogol has an incredible talent for characterizations, which drive the entirely plotless stories (my favorite type of story).
