This was such a fun read. It’s third person dual POV.
We start by following Amias, who works for The Legion, flee his job, home and basically his life, after taking someone’s life to protect his nephew Owen, who is Shadowborn. The Legion take the lives of Shadowborns because they feel their magic is threat to open a gate they wish to remain closed, hence why he needs to protect Owen.
Amias acquires the help of Colt to protect them on their journey, this is a man who Amias helped as a teenager get his life together. Amias and Colt set off to retrieve Owen and flee the country to protect him.
Poor Owen is essential ripped away from his first steady home.
This is quite the adventure, from fleeing the country to running into bands of thieves to being captured by The Legion; if you love magic, legends, secrets and adventure then this is for you. This book is not spicy, like not even a little, however there is some internal pining from Colt and Owen who grow close during their quest. They do endure a lot together. They do finally kiss towards the very end.
I do look forward to the next book. It does end in a cliffhanger and I’m curious how Amias will handle things with Elian. I definitely recommend if you’re a fan of fantasy.
