The Younglings: Fire & Magic by Helena M Craggs

4.0

‘The Younglings: Fire & Magic’ is everything you want a coming of age, fantasy trope based book to be! It has engaging characters, a brilliant premise and I found it to be very engrossing. It is the second book in ‘The Younglings’ series but I think it can be read as a stand-alone. However, I do recommend picking up the first book as it was a great read!

Quinn Carter, a young half demon, would love a minute of peace and quiet. But when a movie date is cut short by the ghost of a young woman, a murdered student, the Younglings leap into action to apprehend the killer. Also, they still have to deal with the group of vampire who want Eve’s angel blood, a witch Hunter who is determined to catch Millie. Can the gang sort everything out so that their friends are safe?

The thing that I love about this book is that all the characters are unique and have well developed and unique voices! They have grown a lot since the first book and I liked Quinn’s exploration of the negative aspects of his demon heritage. The relationship between him and Eve has grown and we see how even those in love can be affected by the events which are taking place. As they hurtle to the their 18th birthday they have to deal with their magical sides and what they means for their partner. And it’s not just Quinn and Eve it’s all of the Younglings.

I flew through this in a couple of sittings and found it to be an engrossing read! It is action packed from the beginning right to the end. It really drew me in and I couldn’t wait to finish it. I’m not normally a YA fantasy reader but I love this series and can’t wait to read book three!

Let me know if you pick this one up!
