I very much enjoyed reading this book, however I did have some problems with it. The first being the murder, yes I know murder is a major part of being a pirate, but what I didn't like about it was how flippant it was dealt with. I would much have prefered this book be made for an adult audience and actually be fully dealt with. On the flipside the spice was just too much for me, for a YA book. Again, I would much rather have had this book be an adult book and go full out in all aspects.
I'm not the biggest fan of first person and at first I didn't mind it. But by 50 pages in I got the inkling that this book would do a lot more telling instead of showing.
Lastly, the last 70ish pages . . . I couldn't wait for it to be over.
