Odd Duck by Cecil Castellucci

4.0

Theodora could not relate to a single thing he said. But she knew one thing was certain... She and Chad would NOT be friends.

This is one of the cutest kids graphic novel/picture books I have read in 2018. It is for ages 4-8 but I enjoyed it at 25 just the same. The artwork is well done and the storyline is quite adorable.

We follow the sassy albeit odd duck named Theodora, who is seriously set in her ways. She does the same thing every single morning without change, except in the winter. She does daily exercises, goes swimming with a teapot on her head, goes to the grocery store and picks up mango salsa, goes to the fabric store, and also the library to pick up one or a few books.

The theme of this story is quite simple but important for kids, don't judge anyone by how they act or look. We all are our own people. There also was a subtle theme about challenging your judgments about what good and bad is.

Odd Duck is completely appropriate and without profanity or bad themes for kids.

I am so glad I picked it up from the library.
