Women of the Word: How to Study the Bible with Both Our Hearts and Our Minds by Jen Wilkin
3.0
3.5 stars.
Likes:
- Short and straight-to-the-point without flowery language or lengthy stories
- "Archeological questions" to study before you read a passage so you understand the perspective of the author and audience
- I particularly liked her explanation of "zooming out" so we can understand how each passage contributes to the story of the Bible as a whole.
Dislikes:
- Kind of boring to listen to
- I like learning how others study the Bible so I enjoyed hearing her process, but it is important to emphasize that there are multiple ways to study the Word of God, and that was neither inferred nor implied.
Final thoughts:
- I gain more understanding when I read than when I listen, so I might grab a physical copy of this book in the future that I could use as I study the Bible. I wouldn't mind trying out her method. I just didn't like that it was implied to be the best/only way to study the Bible.
- I do plan on asking myself the "archaeological questions" as I begin a new book of the Bible in the future.
