The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God by Kathy Keller, Timothy Keller

What a gracious conversation about marriage. Tim Keller takes an approach to marriage in this book that is unlike anything I have ever seen. Yet he dives into Scripture as he makes his explanations, and it all makes sense.
With a focus on what the Bible actually says, Keller builds a theology of marriage that sets aside cultural conversations and expectations. He addresses common questions and issues with grace, knowing that only a perfect marriage could measure up to the Biblical standard. This was a refreshing and encouraging take, as I expected the book to be a lot more formulaic.
Over and over, I found myself thinking, “Why aren’t people talking about marriage like this?” And while I weighed through the concepts in this book with a grain of salt, I really appreciated the conversation that Keller presented. The section written by Keller’s wife was especially encouraging, as she offered up perspectives that I had never heard or considered before.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to form a biblical theology of marriage or learn what the Bible has to say about marriage.
