Tales from the Gas Station, Vol. 1 by Jack Townsend

3.5

A twisted and hilarious horror-comedy tale set in a mysterious and bizarre gas station. The story is told in bits and pieces, with details peppered in throughout to keep you guessing until the end. Jack, the main character, suffers from chronic insomnia in that he never sleeps. The condition will be fatal one day, but for now, he just takes care of the gas station. There’s a magical cowboy that lives in the bathroom, human-plants, a family of mutated racoons, and a man who dies enough times to make a cat’s nine lives pale in comparison. It is a enjoyable bite-sized adventure written with way more craftmanship than I would’ve expected from what began as an internet creepypasta. The end itself was just okay; I wasn’t the biggest fan of it here. But, the rest of it was just wonderfully entertaining, and there’s more story to read, so I’m happy to let that be a blip rather than a condemnation!
