Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves by Glory Edim

I thought this neat collection of essays was great! I highlighted some funny quotes and one I know I'll keep using is the idea that parents can raise us like plants and a checked-out, permissive parent raises us like cactuses, not orchids. 😄 (Gabourey Sidibe). The button pushing siblings calling each other black slaves as a beyond the pale insult is so intimate, it feels like the cruelty my sibling and I would have pushed on each other if we had ever been exposed to Roots as white kids in a very un-diverse small town.Â
