I have a potentially controversial prediction: the people who hate Halle Butler's characters aren't mentally ill 🫣
Yes, this and The New Me are very similar in characters and tone: both include bitter, anxious, depressed, delusional, jaded and/or hopeless women in their 20s and 30s (presumably white). They hate their jobs, pick fights with partners, secretly resent all their friends, make terrible choices. I've said before that a lot of people confuse disliking a main character with disliking a book, but I love reading about unlikable people. There were a few inner thoughts or quotes from Jillian in which I was uncomfortable recognizing past versions of myself. And then I realized all those past versions were during a depression or before my anxiety was medicated. I think the people who will connect with these books are the ones self-aware to realize they have had unflattering moments like these characters. TLDR, the normies won't get it 😉 four taters 🥔🥔🥔🥔/🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔
