While I understand how and why this book (and his other) are torn apart theologically, I found myself very much enjoying this story. That being said, after trying to match the story with Bible history for the first 50 pages or so, I gave up and just let the narrative happen. I then found immense joy, sadness, heartbreak, and victory in this story. It is such a beautiful and sweeping novel, full of many picturesque things. I loved this book as a fiction novel with core Christian values and principles. However, to see it as more than that (especially written by a simple man) would be dangerous and unnecessary.
