WOW! I started the book with the understanding that this was a work of fiction, but quarter way through I convinced myself that I must be confused because there was no way that this could all be made up — even my coming up empty fact-checking searches didn’t deter me from my belief that it had to be real. That distortion was SO MUCH FUN. The blurb on the back describes this as a “manual for how pop culture can help smooth and mend us” which makes me want to yell “YES!!!!” at the top of my lungs. While the story is incredibly moving and sad, it’s also so fucking funny.
Part of me is still convinced that this world and show exist in some underground, parallel universe. It made me feel disturbed — in a fabulous way.
