Monstress, Vol. 5: Warchild by Sana Takeda, Marjorie Liu

2.0

The storytelling is very poor and shoddy. Liu doesn't make this smooth sailing for the reader, always throwing in new factions. It's like [a: Layman|93094|John Layman|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1316046488p2/93094.jpg] going overboard with the food powers in Chew, except Liu actually expects you to remember all of this to fully understand her universe. The art is great, the plot twists and character reveals are worth it and provide background, but the delivery is just so complicated. Cramming this volume with battle sequences doesn't help. I'm starting to wonder if Liu is an idea-person who can't quite bring all her ideas together to tell a story competently...
