Body Double, by Tess Gerritsen

5.0

My first book by Tess Gerritsen was Vanish, the fifth book in Rizzoli and Isles series. I loved it. I thought it was almost perfect. So I followed it with the preceding installment (silly me. But the installments can be read as Standalone novels) Body Double. I loved it very very very much.

The body of a woman, Maura Isles' splitting image and her twin sister, was found dead with a bullet wound on her head. In search of what really happened, Isles and Rizzoli stumbled upon another crime. The story is very personal for Maura Isles because, you know, family.

What I loved about Tess Gerritsen's writing is that it's smooth. After finishing the prologue, I knew I'm gonna love this book, and I did. Some authors bored me with details (Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, and even my favorite author, Stephen King), but Gerritsen did not bore me with details about medical, forensic stuff, etc. Everything went smoothly. I just went with it.

The events weaved together. I had a little hard time following them, and that's on me because I'm dumb. But I love how the secrets were uncovered. They did not make me gasp, but they are not disappointing. For me, this is not the kind of book where you can guess who the killer is by paying attention to clues or details alone like Dennis Lehane's books (Or maybe I just missed them because I'm dumb); you just follow the story 'til the end.

I love the ending of the book. There were two endings, each for the two mysteries in the story. I love the first one because like Neil Gaiman, I love stories where women save themselves. I was very pleased with it. It's very satisfying. I also like the second one. It's unexpected.

So, yeah. Solid five stars. Hoping to read the other books in the series.

There's a spoiler from the first book, The Surgeon, in this book, I think.
