The Rocky Road to Romance by Janet Evanovich

5.0

The adventure in The Rocky Road to Romance is a great substitute for a Stephanie Plum story. It all starts with Daisy, who is clueless about being a traffic reporter on the radio but determined to do so for the money the job will bring in. The more early romance books of Evanovich that I read, the more I realize she has a type of female protagonist - mildly clueless and attractive to disasters. The archetype fits Daisy well, though, especially as she juggles a chaotic life of multiple jobs and a PhD dissertation. Steve works very well as the hero Daisy never wanted. The icing on the cake of the book is easily Elsie Hawkins - who should aptly be billed Grandma Mazur the I. Some action of the story is admittedly predictable, but the book as a whole is very entertaining.
