The Robots of Dawn, by Isaac Asimov

Yep, the foundation series, the robot series then empire, as well as his short story, The first question, knocked my socks off when I was in school, majoring in computer science. Right around that time just before I graduated, he died, and I was on the physics-L Usenet list at the time, so it was an interesting time to be connected with students from across the country and from the United Kingdom as we mourned his passing as well as with people on the chess list. I've got to go back and reread these books and review them correctly I suppose. Now that it's been nearly 30 years I think.
