I wouldn’t normally gravitate to historical fiction as it’s not a genre I’ve really liked before but I picked this up as it was my new Book Club’s read for June/July and I’m SO glad I did. I’ve always had respect and admiration for the Brontë sisters but didn’t know a massive amount of their journeys and recently jumped on the chance at helping last minute with a school trip to Haworth, but until the visit and reading this book I had no idea of the hardships they faced as a family and the effort it took for them to keep going. This book took me right into their stories and although it was hard to read about the awful things they had to go through I really enjoyed learning about them from Emily’s ‘point of view’. The admiration I had for the sisters and women of their time has grown so much since reading this book and I might even be tempted to seek out more books like this in the future, it’s opened up my eyes to the importance of the past.
